big thanks to all who were involved with the first HealthCamp Minnesota.

I’m thinking through the comments from yesterday, the #HCMN twitter stream, and the individual conversations I had yesterday about any valuable next steps. Many liked Colleen McGuire’s idea of “marriage counselor” metaphor of payer, providers, and patients as a second event around the HealthCamp theme. I’ll follow up with her and others on that. Also any other ideas please list on this page at the bottom link to Leave A Comment.

We will change this website in terms of tabs and content, but we’ll keep the same URL. We’ll also get some of the decks that I promised Ward we’ll do and also host some of the other resources referenced yesterday. I’ll leave the agenda up so you can put a name with a face as a reminder or those that will read the Twitter #HCMN stream can see the timeline of the conversation in association with panel members.

9:00 – It’s your Health Deal With It!

Just about everyone is on the bandwagon of personal consumer behavior. Makes sense for smokers, but how far are individuals going to participate in their health care? In this session, these are the initial issues the group will tackle. Retail consumer technology to address a new market of individual information and exchange, privacy vs. responsibility, immigration in the changing American landscape and its impact on health care. Motivating patients to self administer on the sites that are available now, simple lab tests to limit physician visits for less important situations–these are the topics that will be discussed in this session.

Panel Members: David Moen, MD, medical director of care model innovation, Fairview; Colleen McGuire, vice president-communications, IHC Health Solutions; Albert Maruggi, moderator Senior Fellow Society for New Communications Research

10:00 – Can Device Manufacturers and Donor Groups Benefit from Online Health Communities?

The explosion of aliment related social sites can be a goldmine of information for device manufacturers patients looking for answers. The group in this session will address opportunities for expediting new medical devices and health related solutions including organ and tissue transplants presented by open access to a discussion among patients, physicians, and manufacturers. Other issues that will be discussed include how clinical trial candidates, patient focus groups, and open patient forums are being tapped and supported by medical device manufacturers. Is vetted information beneficial or disruptive to the process. We’ll also look at examples of how manufacturers are using the social web to promote products and go directly to patients.

11:00 - American Idol Doctors – Will It Come to This?

Will the obsession with performance and transparency reduce health care to American Idol Doctors? This session will raise some of the most challenging issues facing health care. Given physician report cards and patient blogging sites, what is the impact of taking on the toughest medical conditions?
