Minnesota Health Leaders Appearing at HealthCamp Minnesota Event

Minnesota Health Leaders Appearing
at HealthCamp Minnesota Event
October 24, 2009
Fairview, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Mayo Clinic and
AbbeyMoor Medical among innovators on panel at University of Minnesota
Minneapolis, MN  – October 7, 2009 – The first HealthCamp  Minnesota www.healthcampminnesota.org will feature leaders who are shaping health care with technology and online communities, instead of  politics. These changes in healthcare are taking place regardless of the direction of health care reform.  There will be lively debate on three panels, with the format allowing for attendees to engage in the conversation directly with panel members as well.
The October 24 event will be opened with keynote speaker  Lee Aase, manager of syndications and social media for the Mayo Clinic at 8:00 am.   The luncheon keynote presentation is a truly  inspirational story from Rachele Chrismer, mother of Zach West, whose rare regressive disease was featured on the Discovery Health series Mystery Diagnosis.  Her unceasing dedication took her family to seven states, during which time she spent hundreds of hours on the web researching her son’s symptoms and participating with communities and physicians to find the correct diagnosis.
HealthCamp Minnesota is a forum where physicians, attorneys, patients, health care marketers and technology advocates will discuss today’s choices and tomorrow’s vision, all of which will impact their care. The three panels are:
It’s Your Health– Deal With It!
From your medical records on Google to counting calories for reduced premiums, this panel will deal with the emotional and financial aspects of your health care. It will cover issues from what’s on your dinner table to what’s in your wallet.
Panel Members: David Moen, MD, Medical Director of Care Model Innovation, Fairview; Colleen McGuire, Vice President-Communications, IHC Health Solutions
Can Device Manufacturers and Donor Groups Benefit from Online Health Communities?
Ailment communities from cancer to diabetes to muscular dystrophy are across the web. Millions of patients share their stories, look for hope, and hundreds of organizations and companies participate in these communities to better serve the needs of their members. This panel examines whether the speed of information between donor communities, medical device manufacturers, and ailment communities are outpacing the regulations which govern them.
Panel members: John Reid, Chief Executive Officer, AbbeyMoor Medical, Mary Halet, Director of Donor Community for the National Marrow Donor Program
American Idol Doctors – Will It Come to This?
The obsession to provide transparency and improve performance is creating a public discourse of patient experiences. This panel will examine whether the public is ready to evaluate medical care givers in such an unrestricted way.  Does it trivialize the practice of medicine?
Panel Members: Mary Ann Stump, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota,  Chris Boyer, Social Media Strategist, Health Grades
HealthCamp Minnesota will be held at the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center’s Mayo Auditorium, 425 Delaware Street S.E., Minneapolis, on Saturday, October 24 from 8am – 1pm.  The initial sponsors of the event  include Netbriefings, www.netbriefings.com, HealthPartners, www.healthpartners.com and Interval. http://www.thinkinterval.com/
